27V Portfolio – Fiveable

Fiveable is an online platform that provides students with online real-time access to the very best educators for AP subjects in the United States. While the classes are live streamed for free, students pay $5/month to access recorded content. In addition to subject content, the site’s curated streamers (teachers and senior students) also share tons of valuable information on writing research papers, cracking exams, time management, prioritization and much more.

The Founder, Amanda Do Amaral, is an ex-AP-subject-teacher herself and was recently recognized by Business Insider as one of ‘30 Founders Under 30’ to watch out for in 2020. Amanda is a force of nature like nobody else I know, a firebrand. I first saw her speak on a panel at the ASU GSV summit and decided to reach out, because I wanted to learn more about her and the business she was building. If you google her, one of the results that will pop up is this YouTube video where she calls out College Board for their questionable syllabus change – like I said, fiery.

Amanda recently wrote an article about the recent fundraise – read it here. It is a radically authentic story of the rollercoaster ride that is a startup, especially one in fundraising mode. If you’d like to learn more about the company, take a look at their website.
